Bus companies made liable

This was the topic that caught my attention and must I say IT'S ABOUT TIME!!!

It's stated in The Star paper that, Kurnia Insurance has decided to make the bus firms out there be partly liable for certain damages if certain conditions are not fulfilled. I find this very reasonable as it's about time these bus firms take responsibility on their part.

Think about it for a moment, customers pay a certain amount of $$ for a bus ride, they of course expect get proper comfort and of course to arrive at the destination in one piece, not one arm flung into the ravine while one leg on the highway. (Sorry, if it's too descriptive). So is it so difficult to ask for the bus firms to bear a little responsibility for the welfare of their passengers? I mean how much is RM5,000 of damages for death or injuries compared to a whole bus load of "you know what"?? I'm thinking that RM5,000 is considered pretty measly amount, taking into the fact that, 1 individual can be insured up to more than 1 million. Alright, I mean that's a personal thing, but RM5,000?? Can you actually put an amount on a life of a person??

It is also a good implication for the bus firms to get their act correctly. They'll have to think twice, NO, more than twice in actually hiring proper bus drivers, not any Tom, Dick or Harry just to fill the position, not taking into account whether the individual is wanted by the police even.

So, I'm hoping that other insurance companies will not take advantage of this issue and use it as a business opportunity in offering these bus firms their insurance coverage instead if Kurnia decides to go on with their plan.
** Won't be updating my blog after this for the whole week as I'll be outstation (no access to the internet).

Agreed!

I personally think all other insurers should emulate Kurnia in this matter.

The idea that drivers go through medical check to renew their driving license is crappy. Afterall, assuming I am one of those drugged driver, I would make sure I am off drugs for like 1 month just to get the necessary clearance. Also, since you can choose your medical examiner, there is always risk of some greedy medical examiner taking bribes / some officers may find it lucrative to now get bribes from desperate willing guilty drivers.

Obviously money talks and by making these companies liable, they would screen more thoroughly. I am not sure why people wants to make a big fuss when lives are at stake and these are the same people who would be first in line to wash their hands clean when accidents happen!

Zewt: Yea. Social issues that concerns each and everyone of us. The authorities?? Of course they must be responsible. Issuing summons is probably what they think as "responsible" enough. No need to do any follow up after that.

Cirnelle: 1000 extra permits. I wonder how many XXXX no of lives will be at stake eh??

Anonymous: Yes. Every business out there will surely take this opportunity to make some sort of $$ from this issue. We'll see when.

Agree totally! Bus companies must be responsible for what happens . . . like any other business I suppose.

most ppl in msia has short term memory... after a while, ppl wont remember the bus incident until another similar incident happens.

and from the looks of it......wif what the gov is doing..... one can never know when the next 'accident' might happen again. *sighs*

Tunku Halim: Yes. But will they admit to the responsibility? Or does it have to come by force?

Alvin: Yes. Talk about short term memory. Once something else happens this one will be old news. Sad huh.
